I was loaned a Tiguan 2. 0TDi DSG recently while my Touareg had some warranty work done, it would be wrong to compare the two so I've compared the Tiguan to my previous Hyundai Santa Fe.

The Tiguan is less spacious, on width in the front seats and both width and length in the rear - the boot was noticeably smaller - the ride quality was comparable and the Tiguan had excellent steering precision. The Tiguan's DGS automatic was slow to operate, particularly getting away from a stop-start cycle. The engine didn't feel very lively which may be the effect of VW's latest emission fixes.

Despite dieselgate, I'm still a fan of VW Group but if I was buying in this sector, I'd be looking at Seat Ateca or Skoda Kodiaq rather than VW Tiguan.

The new Tiguan is wider than the old one. It was parked next to a Audi Q5 the other day and was a similar size to that but 10K cheaper.

I can only compare it to my previous tow car, a Q3.

Took it down to Devon towing the Unicorn Cabrera. Towed beautifully, very stable and

averaged 29mpg. Must say I wish I'd had an automatic years ago !!

I have to admit I am very impressed with our tiguan as a tow car and also as a solo (the boot is not the biggest but it suits us just fine) we have had ours just over two years now and bought it the same time we bought our first ever caravan, it tows like a dream and does not struggle in the slightest with our van at 1440 mlptm and is quite happy chugging along in 6th gear most of the time, we like it that much we are definitely going to look at changing it next year for a brand new model.
