9-3 Sportwagon Aeroback

Townie
  • 2006 Diesel 1.9 Manual Estate 45 25 3 Car kept breaking down. Engine management light came on during its first longish drive, resulting in a tow back to the selling garage. Rear exterior lights stopped working. Rear wiper stopped working. Alternator packed up 2 months after warranty had expired, resulting in a £250 rebuild. Changed it shortly after. 3 Towed our old 1400kg caravan ok but always felt underpowered. 4 Good to drive, good performance. 1 Reliability!!! 3 OK as a solo car. Definitely wouldn't recommend it as a towcar. Also, I drove it in the snow, NOT RECOMMENDED!!! 4 Used Independent showroom Helped to sort the problems when it was in the warranty period. Not interested when the alternator failed 2 months after the warranty expired. This was the fourth car that I had bought from them, haven't been back to them since this car! No
Nice to drive. Looked good. High level of equipment.

I also had one of these but regrettably only for a few months. It was superb solo and very economical but could not cope with 1500Kg on the back. Looks like the Chinese will be building them in the near future.

I tow with a 2007 Saab 9-3 saloon 150bhp Vector Sport and have to say I have absolutely no problems once the caravan is loaded properly. I have a Senator Indiana and have towed all over the UK, Scotland Ireland France and Spain with no issues and find it has more than enough power, even on the steepest of hills at 100kmph, just drop it into 5th gear and it rarely looses momentum. I would definitely have close on 20,000KM towing with this car caravan with no issues. My car has almost 314000 KM on the clock at the minute and although it did have the clutch and flywheel done at 145000, that is all that has failed. I've owned the car since 65000KM. (sorry about the KM's readings but thats what is on the clock over here in Ireland. .Maybe I just got a good one but thats my experience!! :-)

Glad you got a good one. As I said, it always felt underpowered when towing, and the thing kept breaking down. Maybe it was a "friday afternoon" car.

Sorry for the late reply. For some reason I don't get any notification when there is a reply to a comment I make. Is this normal? Sounds like you had bad luck alright. I still have the Saab and no issues thank god. I have just bought a low mileage Grand Cherokee Overlander that I will probably use for our trip to Italy next summer. :)
