Brecon
The only way to check the charger(and most other electrical gremlins) is with a multimeter, With power OFF and a charged battery you should read around 12. 8v DC. With power ON and charger ON you should read around 13. 8vDC at the battery terminals. A multimeter is a good investment, and are quite cheap .(Halfords, Argos, B&Q etc) Edited September 16, 2014 by Brecon
klarky
hi,are you at home or on site. ...either way without electric on take note of the battery reading and or needle/indicator. ....,switch to electric and note if the needle has moved and ampage is higher,if it does not move and show higher ampage then it looks like charger is not working, obviously battery could also be dud,but it still should show a higher output when connected Quote nissan xtrail tekna 173 . ....SERIES 2 UNICORN VALENCIA 2013
TonyJover
. .. note if the needle has moved and ampage is higher. .. Voltage, not current (or even the hateful American 'amperage'). [/pedant] Tony
nme2no1
Dead simple, put your 12v lights, trip the MCB for the mains, you should see the lights dim slightly, switch the MCB back on and the lights should get slightly brighter, the difference is noticeable. Simple test, don't even need to go outside. You should also see a very slight difference on the voltmeter.

bspks
In a modern Bailey, e. g. made in the last 9 years or so, the charger sits inside the consumer unit (fuseboard) on a ledge at the top connected by a kettle type 3 pin connector. It is not uncommon for this to work loose and come unplugged, so if you've got doubts about it charging and can't check it electrically, disconnect your hookup lead, whip off the cover and make sure the charger is connected.
