The switch is to set the 12v supply to the van domestic circuits . .

You wouldn't normally set it to 'Car' . . that draws power from the car when connected . .

'Off' would be used when in storage, ensuring there is no drain on the battery from inadvertently left on lights/radio etc.

'Van' is to use from the caravan battery, which is kept charged on hook-up by the vans 'battery charger'

Some would say use 'Off' when towing . . newer vans automatically disconnect the battery in this case.

Roughing it . . but in comfort . .

Thanks for the help everyone.

Have another query, just spent lovely few days in the Cotswolds which is about 2 hour drive from home. When I left the campsite the needle on the meter was in the Green, I hooked up and turned the switch to car, when I got home the needle was in the Red? anyone have any answers for that?
