Halohodge
Went back to my tow bar dealers as the 13pin socket was getting flooded, it folds under the car when not in use, he told me that you should not put a rubber cap over the plug as it blocks the drainage holes up so if water/damp gets in water wont drain away. I have always used a cap as it stops grit etc covering the plug, but apparently you shouldn't do that. They put in extra drainage holes in and sealed the plug and put a clip on the cable to stop ingress that way, thought I would let you all know, the rest it up to you. purplemadboy
I just got a new bar fitted and the guy also said better not to use the caps as it traps water and encourages damp in the terminals
toby6033
I used to use them for years, then i bought a shogun that had to stand outside as it was too tall to go in the garage. I found out shortly afterwards that the fuse for the caravan had blown under the bonnet and the fitter's first question was " have you got covers over the sockets?". i removed them and had no more problems.
