Also some people go away only when the kids go back to school. For peace and quiet!

We are currently at Stonehaven and the wardens have been turning people away for the last 3 days. We are having to stay an extra day (Sunday) as our next chosen site, Scone, is full until Monday.

We haven't been able to get all the nights we wanted at our last two sites - a bit annoying but good for the industry.

We are at Old Hartley and that is fully booked for the next ten days. If you can live without a toilet block all the more reason to use CLs.

The CC is a bit naughty. They have continually accepted new members but failed to increase the number of pitches/sites on their network to accommodate this rise in membership. -- Thank goodness for the CL network !!

There are many constraints related to increasing Club pitches/sites not least of which are Planning regulations. During the Summer holiday period whilst popular sites are full for the whole of the period there are still other sites with vacancies throughout. It also does not necessarily follow that an increase in membership leads to an equivalent increased demand. Many members join simply to access other membership benefits and never use Club sites.

With regards to the current situation highlighted in the OP, the Cirencester Park CC site, for example, has no vacant pitches today and tomorrow. Next weekend the Club's late availability page shows a minimum of 71 vacant pitches on any day of the weekend with 102 vacancies on Sunday night at Cirencester. If we were to assume that the rest of the 210 pitches at Cirencester pitches are occupied it means that 48% are unoccupied next weekend. However the fact there are no vacancies at any particular time does not mean that all pitches are occupied. Areas of the site could be closed for maintenance or pitches closed for recovery. I have been to Cirencester Park when half of the site was closed, there were fewer than 50 caravans on the other half with a rally of 25 outfits on nearby area.

I would suggest that any Club site which is only half full at any time is probably just about breaking even for that period which could indicate there is very little demand for pitches during the period outside the holiday season peak. Commercial leisure businesses only open for the season and mothball their sites during the close season. The CC does not have that option due to membership demand for pitches throughout the year. This demand often falls short of break even and consequently leads to a reduction in surplus funds from the sites' operation with which to fund an expansion of the network.

Really ? Centenary New Forest site, Burrs country park, Bridlington, Stonehaven, Strathclyde Park, Poolsbrook & The Firs in Derbyshire are all myths then ?

This spell of good weather has also encouraged those that can 'van in September to get a few more days in. I bet when the weather turns, there'll be pitches at all the CC sites that are currently full. IIRC, e didn't have a problem last September when it was cold and miserable but looking at the same sites we visited now, no, we wouldn't get on.

Caravan Club sites are full.

Yet 30 good quality caravan sites here in the South West are offering cheap prices to anyone with an ACSI discount card in an effort to try to get some customers, others are accepting Camping Cheques at similar cheap rates - and some of them are Club Affiliated sites. All are trying hard to try and find customers and fill a few empty places.

There are good alternatives if Club sites are full.
