What Towbar Electrics?

Hi all

Another question, sorry

So the next step in starting caravanning is to get a towbar fitted to my 03 Saab 9-3 convertible. Price I think, will determine whether I go fixed or removable, but I'm unsure what electrics to go for.

I understand the basics of the 3 types, but am still not sure which I should get. This car is likely to be gone long before we get a 2008 or newer van, so should I get

13 pin, to future proof the car and then buy an adaptor for whatever pre 2008 van we get (probably 1999-2002)

Twin 7 pin, direct fit to our older van, but isn't it more expensive than 13 pin to buy/fit? Though I suppose offset by not having to buy an adaptor. Also, sure I read somewhere that twin 7 pin can cause problems?

Single 7 pin, will work with the old van we'll get, but no fridge on the move, which I'm not fussed about, assume this will be the cheapest option? Any downside I've not considered?

Thanks

Brighty

I'd go 13 pin, the number of grey sockets I have replaced, well . ....

it is possible to wire the caravan twin plugs into a 13 pin plug.

13-pin as it's vastly superior - it's not difficult to convert the caravan to 13-pin to match, or as said use an adapter.

Definitely fit the 13 pin socket to the car and use something like CD suggests on the caravan. Make sure that the fitter wires it up correctly so that the fridge will be powered when towing.

Single 7 pin also means you won't be charging the battery when towing.

For a tenner you can get a stubby adaptor to plug into the 13 pin socket if you need to tow a simple trailer.

Land Rover is now back towing.

Make sure you get the full 13 pin Caravan wiring with 2. 5 earths and power

for battery charging and fridge.

If you have to use an adapter, 13pin to two seven pins is the best option.
