Battery Failure Joy. Good Timing.

Yesterday I took my caravan to the dealer to have a repair on the grill. A bolt or nut had come undone allowing the front of the grill burner assembly to drop. It meant removing the oven and so not a job for me - done under warranty.

I towed the van abut 35 miles there and back. Unhitched from the car with motormover engaged. Spun the caravan across the narrow road fronting our property and got the caravan half way in when the battery ran out of steam. Just as I was thinking 'hmm, now what do I do?' my mobile rang and it was Phantom Tracker telling me that my battery was flat! I knew that :)

Then the good news. I was thinking do I take the battery off one of the cars or can the chap fitting air horns to my neighbours car give me a hand and perhaps, between the two of us we can get it up the dropped kerb and sloped footway? The chap is a car electrics/electronics engineer and shouts across 'Hang on I will get my power pack out of my car. Sorted clipped onto my battery terminals and he walked alongside whilst the mover did its job. :D

Not sure if the battery is U/S or not. When we brought the van in it was impractical to park it up properly as there is a pinch point and the chap would not have been able to walk alongside. I put the EHU in place for 1. 5 hours and then parked the van properly so I know that the on board charger is OK. When I went into the 'van there were several interior lights on - probably the fitter had them on whilst working in the shop. They were short staffed at the time, due to holidays, and so the chap who worked on it is actually a manager and was doing it in order for me to be able to wait for it. The van had been off EHU for just a week at home as we were having some work done and I did not want it in the way.

The old battery is an 85AH battery. When we initially got the 'van in my neighbour asked 'do you want a new leisure battery for £70'. SO I have a new 110AH battery that he kindly collected for me. He had done some work for a local tow bar and trailer firm a few years ago (He delivered some trailers for them and took some to put on display at exhibitions and garden festivals etc). They were happy to knock £20 off their price.
