I used to be in the trade but I don't recognise what you describe. Is it a spring type roller or does it have a plastic chain on one side? (Sidewinder). If so which side is it on? A photo would help. ...Peter

The plastic 'wire' is likely to be used to keep the blind in place when inserted into the roller during manufacture. The blind needs taking off the wall, dismantling, and the 'wire' needs feeding back into the slot in the roller to keep the blind in place. It's much more difficult to write than to do, believe me.
