Shower Tray Replacement/repair

Recommended Posts

Coachman Amara 550/5 (2007)

We have found a 6 inch crack in the side of our shower tray, it is located at a corner radius where the tray bends from vertical to horizontal, also the plastic weld between the shower tray and enclosure side wall has a crack.

We have contacted our usual service centre, who have contacted Coachman only to be told the shower tray is obsolete (after 7 years!!!) and that we should try a replacement "skin". The service centre have declined to help any further as they feel the "skin" is not durable. Not impressed by the response from Coachman.

Someone else we have contacted has suggested making a mold of our shower tray to make a glass fibre replacement, has anyone ever had this type of repair?

Any other ideas please.

Talk to somebody that repairs and uses that spray paint stuff. ... Caravan medic can elaborate. .. It's VERY strong.

Dreadly, thanks for the reply. We have also contacted the company that provides this solution and we do not like the solution versus the cost, as we are not confident it would be durable in the long term.

It is not cheap but I have yet to hear of a situation where it has failed. ..

I think some dealers used to use plastic (hot air) welding,

not pretty but it works if done properly. The other alternative

is a good breakers yard.

The other good thing about speedcoat is that it can also make your shower tray 'none slip' :)

Wilbu6669,

There is also another company called Plastic Shower Specialists - they are based up North somewhere but cover the whole country -google them and you will see what they do. I haven't used them for repairs just to line my washroom after I removed the old shower unit and fitted a bathtub instead. Their service was excellent and they do repairs to shower trays etc.

Mine was speed coated by kdr leisure near Scarborough before I bought it. If they hadn't pointed it out I would have never realised that it was a repair job, it doesn't flex much now and seems better than an un coated tray.

Kdr leisure are a good friendly family company and I highly recommend them. No affiliation with them just a happy customer.

Similar shower unit to mine, and exactly the same fault. Speedcoat is the way to go. The nearest one

to you is at Ludlow. I had mine done last year, and as Caramedic says, it is a no quibble lifetime

guarantee. The reason the shower cracks is because whatever it rests on decomposes, and the tray

also becomes brittle and splits.

If you want the telephone number PM me. ;)
