Freezer Compartment

The springs (or whatever) have gone on our freezer compartment door and the lid just flops down once you open the fridge door. At the moment I'm having to wedge it shut with an old plastic key-fob.

There is a white plastic fitting which has snapped off just by the hinge/pivot, I can't really see how it works and am presuming that any spring device is fiited on the other side of the fridge, i. e. you would need to unscrew and draw the whole fridge forward to get access to to, am I correct?

I don't mind doing this if it is the only way of repairing it, I'm a bit wary about the gas connection though, is it a flexible connection?

Can anyone give me some advice please? Also where can I obtain any replacement parts for the Electrolux?

Not sure which fridge you have but a similar thing happened to mine. I did a repair and wrote it up and put it in 'top tips'. You can find it here: http://www. caravantalk. org. uk/forums//inde. ..5887&hl=Freezer

Unfortunately the two piccys seem to have got deleted.

hi John,

There are parts of the hinge/spring assembly that have snapped off so I think I do need to buy new ones.

There's very little left intact to figure out how it works, it's a shame your photo's have been deleted, it might have made it a bit clearer.

I'll try and do a search on Electrolux and see what it throws up.

Thanks for the advice anyway.

most good caravan dealerships should carry the hinge bearing kits for electrolux fridges. i know i do. they are all the same on every full width freezer door. a pair should set you back about £8. 00

Without dismantling my door, I can't redo the photos, however if you get the new parts, you'll see how they go together, and you'll be able to relate each part to my previous description. As you remove the old from the door, match up with the new since there is a left and a right. You'll need to make up a tool to tension the springs.

  • 4 years later...

The hinges on the freezer compartment doors have broken. It is a Dometic Absorption model fitted to an Abbey GTS Vogue 2005. I think the model number is RM7271L but not sure as the van is in storage and I cannot check at the moment. Does anyone know where I can get a replacement freezer compartment door or can the hinges be replaced.

They are not cheap but they are the right parts. Have bought off them before and the service is good
