john47
I have a small solar panel and charge controller on my van and would like to know if when I remove my battery to charge it up whether I need to disconnect the panel from the controller or simply cover it. Actually I have the box it came in which I intend keeping it in when using the van. Sorry, wrong forum can mods move it to right forum please. Lefthand Down
Always best to disconnect the controllers supply from solar feed (positive wire will do) when removing the battery connections. I had a controller show an error condition (a red led came on during battery refit) because I had taken off the battery and then replaced it. The solar feed is best attached AFTER the battery is in place and connected. tictag
Not sure about your controller but mine simply switches off when the battery is disconnected. In fact it only switches on when PV output is battery voltage +5V or higher.

Midsman1
We have an 80watt solar panel fitted to the roof of our caravan, and the instructions from Coachman are quite simple and direct. If you disconnect the battery for any reason there is fuse that has to be taken out of the solar panel supply
