Lunarcamper
Just had a piece of glass fall on the rear grp and awning rail on the back of our van, my own fault, have been meaning to move it for ages. It has left a small 1-2" crack in the gelcoat on the rear corner of the back panel, doesnt seem to have damaged the structure. Am thinking of a caravan medic repair, anyone have any experience? And an idea of price? Have termporarily smeared some silicone sealer which thb looks ok and has covered it well enough for the time being however want to get it done properly. WispMan
My s-i-l repairs his GRP products with gelcoat and then sands and polishes. So you can do the same and you may need wet'n'dry going between 1000 and 2000 to get back the fine shiny surface finish. Lunarcamper
Cheers, never done a grp repair, and knowing that I am rubbish and impatient with metalwork paint I am concerned I will completely bodge it. ..... WispMan
Clean the area. Fine sand it to rough it up a bit. Clean dust away. Put on gelcoat with, say, a match into the crack groove. Sand down and polish. Try in an innocuous area first - or get someone else to do it! I say sanding but in reality it is each time wet and dry with increasing grades of emery and water. A local trade paint shop will have all the grades of emery paper. Quote Graham Unless otherwise stated all posts are my personal opinion
Lunarcamper
Fortunately I know where our local auto paint shop is. I presume the gel coat comes coloured? CommanderDave
Is it GRP or ABS plastic as it will need plastic welding if it is ABS. Lunarcamper
Pretty sure it's grp, but not 100% Quote Land Rover - Range Rover 3. 6TDV8 VogueLunar Quasar 615 - 2004 (gone) Lunar Ultima Extra TL - 2010 (very much here)

Lunarcamper
Cheers, will do in the morning. Still not sure if grp or abs? Can't find it in the brochure. If abs then I assume it will need welding, which I can't do. And it may be a professional repair. Only a small impact crack, straight line, 1" long on the corner. 2010 lunar ultima. Can't press either side and move it so structurally strong, just concerned about water ingress Quote Land Rover - Range Rover 3. 6TDV8 VogueLunar Quasar 615 - 2004 (gone) Lunar Ultima Extra TL - 2010 (very much here)

Caravanmedicswindon
Chances are it will be ABS, easier & quicker to repair than GRP. Lunarcamper
Have sent some emails out for quotes, but I suspect it can be done mobile by Derbyshire medic for less. Probably have most of the kit to repair it to hand soldering iroms dressing tools torches for heating etc but don't want to make a mess. Could probably do it but haven't got a clue where to start on a neat finish or what colour rods to use. .... Have been pretty handy with repairs in the past stripping rails etc. but this is a new to me nice van and I want it to be fairly bodge free. Lunarcamper
pic of the silicone patch i have put over the damage last night. has cured and will keep any water out for the time being. Its hard to tell if it has punctured the plastic. the crack is 20mm long with a couple of fine cracks coming off the end. so should be ok until it can be repaired properly. Caravanmedicswindon
It looks most likely to be ABS, even without seeing the crack it will be an easy repair that should cost well under £200 to repair.
