Living over the sea, we are deprived of any theme parks on the island of Ireland.

For a family of 5 (childeren 14,13 and 9) is Alton Towers the best one to go to and if so can anyone recommend a good site near it?

The Camping and Caravanning Club site called Alton `The Star` site a mile away should be ideal, there is a bus to the theme park, and you don't have to be a member, look at their website for booking details.

Not stayed at the C & CC site at Alton yet, so can't comment on that, but we're going at easter.

We found Alton towers was good for kids of the ages yours are. They'll do quite a lot of queuing, but thats part & parcel of any theme park.

Make sure you book on-line for Alton Towers as there's family deals to be had. We have 'Merlin passes' that now give us unlimited access to places like Alton Towers, legoland, chessington & a whole host of sealife centres. If you intend going in to the park a few days in a row it may be worth paying for the merlin passes as you get free drinks & 20% off everything you buy in the park including food. You can get them in exchange for tesco clubcard points, but not sure how many you'd need!!

What ever you do, don't turn up & pay full price on the door, a quick internet search will save you lots especially if your bringing quite a large family.

many thanks everyone.

As a side issue when we went to France with Irish Ferries last year we got a 'free' trip from Ireland to Britain. Except the 'free' trip is only free when used in low season, for 2 adults only and with no caravan. Suplements for these brings price from free to 382 euro - still significantly cheaper than just booking though.
