The Compass Point East In The Caravan Hunt.

So im pretty much losing faith in british caravan manufacturers.

Ive explored many avenues and heard many things, and ive heard that Burstner and Hymer are very good caravans.

So, ive checked out the good Burstner website and found that the nearest caravan dealer is a mere 40 miles away in Calais, France.

Not too much of a worry as I can (a bit rusty) understand the francais.

So being geographically gifted to the coast of our continental neighbours, I was wondering if anyone on here has experience of buying a caravan from france, germany, etc. ?

Any advice or pointers?

Interesting that their online catalogue only has motorhomes now. ....

Nope. Check out the www. buerstner. com/int/caravans website, it also has an english text version.

I especially like the averso 510tk.

VAT will be payable, the door will be on the wrong side etc etc.

Burstner stopped selling caravans in the UK about 3 years ago

Ours is a 2007 model & is by far the best caravan I have owned in over 25 years of caravaning

According to an online duty calculator-

Calculation notes

Notes on duty & taxes rates

Caravan has an import duty rate of 2. 7% and VAT rate of 20%.

Duty result for item caravan is nil because the total amount of duty payable for this item is less than £9. 00

Notes on import taxes due

No import duty is due between two members of the EU Customs Union

No additional import VAT due between members of the EC Fiscal area

And HMRC website says the same.

20,000 = £19,000, plus a few hundred for socket conversion. Sweet.

Burstner actually stopped selling caravans in the UK in 2008.

The 2007 models were the last sold in this country.

I bought one of the last Belcanto 535ts models from Chelston in Wellington.

No longer have the van as we retired and downsized in 2010 but have to say other than the very uncomfortable seating it was the best built van we have ever had.
