As soon as I switch on my heater on it trips out the mains. It`s not the elements as I`ve checked them out. Anybody got any idea`s?

Are you talking about on site? It may be the site limit that is causing it, normally 16 amps

Try it on low first to see if it will go then turn it up. Ours blows the trip on some sites if we have it to high

Are you tripping your caravan 240V MCB or the site electrics?

Unless otherwise stated all posts are my personal opinion

How were you able to check the elements

It would have to be a good multi meter to test elements, to do it properly you need a Mega which is testing to earth at 500v and not 9!

You need at least 18000 ohms resistance to earth at 240v for a 30 milli amp RCD not to trip.

What it is often is damp so what I alway say is you can try running the fire on a fairly high gas setting for 24hrs with fan on moderate setting, If it still trips, then try another 24hrs but if still no good get back to me.

Theres more but can you answer this, first said 'as soon as I switch the heater on', in post 5 you say 'it's switched off at the controller'? you've lost me there!

Gary,It a good meter. The controller for the fan and heater elements on the left hand side surely the elements would only trip if the switch was on?

No multi meter produces an higher enough voltage to test elements, at 9v they will only give an indication if the short is high enough for the meter to pick up. You need a mega to test them at twice working voltage while elements are isolated.

1, Could though be a fault then in the wiring to the control box, 2, the control box itself, or 3, possibly the wiring out off control box to elements.

Point 3, the control box has two relay to switch the elements on,( low/high settings), if control switch is off then relays should be open, therefore it should not be able to be 3 unless relay/s is stuck on?

if indeed with a mega the elements check out ok and experience dictates this is unlikely, then my bets on wiring too the heater, not forgetting kettle plug socket in control box melted?!

Thanks for that. disconnected mains lead from the heater and it didn't trip out.
