Hello!

I'm from Finland and me and my friend bought a caravan, but we need specific information to get it registered.

Its id plate has number 227115 and text B&B leamington spa ltd, England and its box has text Sirocco.

I have been trying to find information about this caravan.

For identification, its lenght is about 5 metres and widht is about 2m.

What i'm trying to find out is how much is the recommended axl lenght, how much this body can carry and what is its whole mass. .

I'll try to add a picture of this caravan for recognizion. .

I'm from finland so sorry for my bad english. .

Good morning, nice to meet you, your English is better than my Finnish :D

There are a few websites that catalogue older caravan types/models and

at the moment I cannot find one! Either someone else will post an identification

or I wioll get back to you later today.

ALKO started as B & B in Leamington so I assume the words on the van refer to the hitch or the chassis.

AND Elddis had a Sirocco van - will search for images.

Update - the Elddis Sirocco is a modern Elddis Van whereas your picture is a much older van - maybe the 1908's - hope someone else can shed a light on it.

Alko started in Germany and started to build caravan chassis in 1968 Uk caravan manufacturers used B&B but when weight became a issue they changed to the lighter Alko chassis.

It's an export elddis scirocco, built around 1979 under ABI's wide export drive at that time. One of the last B&B after Alko took them over, and one of the first years with acrylic windows.

Definitely not a Mardon or Thompson.

Sorry can't help with weights, there may still be some old info at ABI (UK) ltd.

It is an Elddis from 1977, the only year they used that body shape. May well be a Sirroco, but the 77 UK Sirocco had a different layout (end kitchen six berth) than the window position on the OP's one suggests.

Going on the shape and the way the green decals are positioned, it looks very much like one of these :-

If it was a Mardon it would have disintegrated twenty years ago.

Shortly I will be publishing a book on caravans from the 1908's.

It is at the publishers as we speak and there are only 64,734 typographical mistakes to rectify.

So don't hold your breast - or even breath!

It came up a Mardon on a Yahoo image search, but looking closely you can see the words Elddis on the front.

My thoughts are that the 1982 Elddis Shamal had three windows at the front did it not. .......

and a 1977 Elddis would have aluminium window frames. ....

Don't know what the van in the OP is though.

Thank you all for your answers! :) I'm stil not sure of what is it. ... But i wondered if someone would have a registration document for this kind of caravan and would scan it to computer and send it to my email. . Even if it wasnt to this exact model it would be possible to use it to get our caravan registered. .

Its quite difficult to explain but our registration process depends on those facts about axl lenght, caravan overall mass and the mass what body can carry. .. Finnish registration system went crazy by the new year. . 2014 brought some new requirements to get old caravans registered.

We thought that the id plate would have revealed those facts what we are looking for but no, not by any means. . :D:beardy:

The 1982 Elddis GT models did have three front windows but the standard model, as in the picture, had one.

The 77 Elddis in the UK had single glazed glass windows but it was not unusual for export vans to have double glazing at that time.

The B&B chassis number you give was made in 1976. .. It is clearly an export model with the entrance door being on the European side. The Sirocco was first made in England for the 1975 season, it had the kitchen in the rear corner.

Internal length 16'6"

Overall Length 19'9"

Its ex works weight at the time was 16. 25cwt (825kg) with a Max of 19. 5cwt (990kg) although this would have had glass windows. Amazing when you think the current model with all its gadgets has a MTPLM of 1900kg

The van in appearance is very much like the Crusader shape that Elddis produced at that time

Elddis have been themselves, A. B. I. , back to Elddis and now Explorer, I wouldnt think you have any chance of finding proper info unless you can find Reg Dean!

Cheers,

Mark

I'll second that, Marks last comment may have been lost in translation?.... by reference to 'Reg Dean' he was saying at this vans age and the manufactures changing several time, you will find it impossible to get original paperwork.

I feel certain then, if Mark had any original paperwork that would be useful to you, he would have said so. You can though be confident the information he has given you is 99. 9% correct. The only doubt being ex-works weight, this being due to the weight given being UK specification with heavier glass windows, so will be several kg heavier than yours.
