Truma Pump Construction

Can anyone with a Truma Ultraflow go and look at their pump, please? It's the one with a blue and white pistol grip to attach to the van. I happened to look at the base of mine, the bit that lives in the tank, and noticed brown staining around the impeller. It looks to me as though the motor that they have used has a plain iron shaft. I just want to check that mine isn't some sort of non-Truma ripoff. It seems to me to be completely unhelpful to make a device that lives in water out of a substance that deteriorates in water! The rust itself isn't toxic, but why not make the shaft of stainless steel? It's a premature failure waiting to happen.

Enjoy every minute of every day. It doesn't last nearly as long as you'd like, and there's no guarantee of coming this way again.

I've just checked mine. There is no brown staining whatsoever. It looks perfectly clean.

Some people are just all show. I don't mind that if the show is worth watching, but . ..

"Stainless" steels can be anything but stainless; have you used any chemical sterilisers, they can certainly break down the surface of most SSs?

No, it has only been in water.

I wonder if you have seen a film of muck, for want of a better word, the source of which I've always thought is from the water passing over the impeller? I know mine gets such a brown film on it after a fair period of use

Thinking a little harder, it maybe be rust but from a central soft iron core for the impeller?, I have though personally never come across a motor shaft that is not rust proof?

No brown stains on mine either. Several years ago I had a pump fail so I ripped it apart dismantled it, to find a stainless steel shaft siezed to a plastic bearing. I think Gary's on the right track; unlikeley to be rust; more likely to be something else.
