Hi to you all out there.

Before you all start shouting UNDER POWERED,it is not intended as a tow car.

I am seriously contemplating an additional car now that my 1997 T5 is no longer here,I have sold it on with 204,566miles and a brand new MoT and battery.

Does anyone have experience of running a Volvo V70 2. 4 Bi Fuel.

The system is a Volvo Factory Fitted inclusion/option from new.

What are the for and against considerations. This is a motorway high mileage vehicle (200,000 miles) and comes with a Full Volvo Service History and all the LPG certification.

Life in general can be a journey of chance with some winners and sadly some losers. Your outfit can never be left to chance. A short-while carrying out essential checks can ensure a long-time of happy & safe caravanning for all concerned.
Ignorance can often be bliss but is certainly not an excuse and when continually disregarded they can be totally disastrous for oneself and the innocent parties.

Not sure if you can take LPG vehicles on the Chunnel still?

There are big problems with the factory bi-fuel models and they can be very expensive to fix, check out the Volvo forums.

Hi dreadly. Thank you very much indeed, they were real eye-openers. The last time I went onto the Volvo owners forums I could have been forgiven for thinking that they had all died, they were not a very forthcoming lot. After Cannondale (Richard) suggested that I look into it again I had a bit more luck with replies.

I think I will pass on this one and stick with my 168,00 miles 2005 (05) V70 D5 SE Geartronic.

I actually have an option (possible straight swap) on a rather nice 2003 (53) 2. 5T (210bhp) SE Geartronic with very attractively low mileage and Full History.

Yea, sorry it was a bit negative but from everything I have read and heard they need serious specialist work to make them a realistic ownership proposition.

Personally I would stick with your D5, they are a very good car and tough as old boots. What is wrong with it? Why do you want to change?

The 2. 5T is a lovely engine, not very similar to a T5 though but a bit better on fuel.

Hi dreadly. I was looking for honesty and from someone that had knowledge but not by necessarily having owned one.

I had a fabulous 111,000 miles Ash Gold 2. 4T SE Geartronic during the mid 2011 to mid 2012 and foolishly sold it,I had already bought the 2. 4 D5 SE Geartronic.

I bought the 2. 4T to get a feel for the Geartronic box,it was a revelation and especially when towing.

I perhaps should have sold my 1997 T5 CD Auto,it has now gone (last week).

I prefer the smoothness and instant response of the petrol engine and when it comes to towing I honestly think that they are a better towcar albeit the diesel well has it on fuel figures.

The mileage that I am now doing and the extra cost of running the diesel for what is a really small gain is negligible.

Mt 2. 4T returned 2 to 3 mpg better than the T5 whether it was solo or towing. The low pressure turbo made the take-off not as violent when pushed and it was a little more tractable on damp roads.

I know what you mean about the violent acceleration, mine was RICA chipped to around 330bhp and was a handful. I never used it for towing but I suspect it would have pulled the towbar off :)

What about the 2. 4 none turbo 140 ? No turbo worries but performance is a little on the light side. Good Towcar though apparently.

The 2. 4 170 unit is a great car though.

Don't dismiss the 2. 0T though, 190bhp standard and very smooth, not as violent as the T5.

Hi dreadly. My God,330bhp. I bet that had awesome torque steer. My T5 was bad enough and that was an auto.

My only observation with the 2. 0/140bhp is the somewhat disappointing fuel consumption and that is why I was considering the Bi Fuel 2. 0/140bhp. All the figures show the 2. 4T 200bhp and the 2. 5T 210bhp Geartronic respectively as the best options when it comes to the best of all worlds.

I am actually hoping to go up to the static in Northumberland on Friday morning via a detour to have a proper look at the 2. 5T that I had mentioned earlier. I will the stay over at my daughters and return home on Saturday late evening.

A great deal of the plan is hinging on Ms Rooster & a visit to the cardiologist tomorrow morning. She is pending admission for by-pass work. It is very very imminent and everything else could well go on the back-burner.
