A New Towbar

Over the weekend I unpacked a new towbar prior to giving it a coat of paint, and was amazed to see it is formed from 8mm & 10mm steel. My previous five or six bars have been more in the region of 6mm & 7mm stock. Could the reason for the heavier gauge be because of EC 94/20? Out of interest, I put the sections on the scales. It totalled a whopping 26Kgs. Obviously the 26Kgs becomes part of the maximum laden weight, and therefore must be deducted from the payload, but does it increase the kerb weight?

I know what you mean, I have had the same thoughts!

But then again, when I have a wife two kids 4 bikes and a roof box, I find myself thinking that this should also surely add to the kerb weight!

Whichevr way it cuts, your car will now be 26Kg heavier than the book says
