Dealer Service

I posted a request for advice last week about flat leisure battery. When good old Powrtouch man came to fit new roller, he said your battery is flat cos the pump has been left on. As I had collected the van 2 days earlier after a £190 service, and they had put on a new van elec connector(as the car one had melted) I had'nt used the grey lead or been in the van. arriving in Scotland, I found the fire only clipped in one side, and hanging off, and then saw that the small plastic cover on the outside fridge vent, was missing. Years ago, I would leave my van on the grass lawn beside the house, and crawl underneath with the WD40 and check the brakes etc. I would not put swiches on and hang the fire loosely or forget to replace plastic covers. My dealer has recently changed hands, and I have written to ask is this the reason I am unhappy, asI have bought three vans from them. Would you want to know their reply, or am I being a picky customer?

You are certainly not a prickly customer, get back to them, I would not be a happy bunny. Remember you paid for the service which has not be done satisfactory, let's not put up with shoddy dealings. Please keep us informed.

I picked my van up from the dealer after some work which involved the disconnection and reconnection of both fridge and cooker. I went direct to a site around 20 miles from the dealer, set up and then went into a frends van for a welcoming drink or two. On returning to our van, it was filled with gas. I obviously turned off the bottle and rang the dealer the following morning (Saturday), Service Managers reply 'Just drop it in and we'll have a look at it' We dropped the van in on the Sunday after spending the weekend without gas, and went to pick it up later that week, a round trip of 120 miles. Reason for 'van full of gas? Loose compression fittings on fridge AND cooker. Why were they loose? 'They had probably shaken loose after it left here.' I wouldn't dare to suggest they had not been tightened by the dealer, would I?

I took my van in for service, when we got back the side locker had come open they had not locked it back up.

They had left the blower on, on the fire, and I found, on one wheel! 3 loose studs, one took two complete turns to tighten it <_< ,

fortunately we are only a few miles from them.

Although I don't think I will find my way back

oh and rubbish in the stabilizer hitch

Gosh, I must be lucky in that I've always found my dealer very, very helpful and they've even done a few minor things at the service without even being asked (and done FOC).

My service is done in March, on the same day I take it, as they're about 90 miles away, and I lost count the number of times that they told me that they hadn't emptied the water tank. They had it written down on my service sheet (obviously to cover themselves too) but they also told me about 4-5 times so that I knew to empty it, incase of frost, if I wasn't going to a site to use the van on my way home.

I noticed last year when i had my van serviced that after they carried out work on my gas fire, it seemed to be lower and the cover would not go back on securely. If you don't complain or cause a fuss, then they will continue to do this. If every customer made sure the dealers knew their feelings about some issues, then they might be a bit more careful each time they do a job.

I know this does not apply to every dealer.

The problem very often is that the caravan is serviced some way from home - not like calling into the Ford dealership on the way to work. Consequently returning the van means either collecting it again from storage or getting it out of the drive, hitching up and putting on the towing mirrors etc, etc, before a long drive to the dealers. It's enough to put a lot of people off complaining and, I suppose, many think, 'Oh, I'll tighten it/fix it/screw it back on myself.'

Now if the dealer had to come to you to put right problems that they themselves caused. ..

 We took our 'van to a local repair "specialist" 3 years ago and asked them to replace the shower. also got a full service. Picked it up about 3 weeks later. (this was in December). First tested the shower in April at the storage facility. Water came out of EVERY joint between the inlet and the shower. Checked and found that none of the jubilee clips had been tightened. When I contacted them to complain, I was told that they must have worked loose by themselves and this was quite normal!!! When I told them what I thought of their reply the attitude was "so what". I also promised to recomend them, (NOT), to my caravanning friends and they put the phone down.

A new dealership has since opened in my town and I used them for the last service. What a difference!!! Everything worked and a few minor jobs done f. o. c.

I have since recomended both of these companies, in different ways of course. ;)

I bloody would. .what a load of rubbish. .. but yes I know and you can only surmise.

When work is carried out on a a gas system. .any system, then a gas soundness, (leak), check is carried out before work commences, the work is them carried out and the system checked again. This way you don't fix previous problems for nothing and you leave the system in a safe condition for the customer to use.

Shaken loose. ..absolute rubbish :angry::angry:
