East Lancashire caravan thief sent to prison

A THIEF who stole a caravan and crashed on the M6 has been jailed.

Anthony Robert Clarke, 27, stole a Land Rover and the caravan from a Longridge farm on February 4.

But it became detached when he drove at speed and the car flipped over.

Clarke, of no fixed abode but who is from the Burnley area, ran from the scene near junction 31 at Samlesbury. He was picked up by police nearby on the A59.

Clarke admitted aggravated vehicle taking and theft of a caravan and was jailed for 17 months.

He was banned from driving for two years

No 5 years hard labour should have been the start for the theft, followed by extras for no insurance, dangerous driving e,t,c,

Would act as a deterrent for those thinking about it. = Less crime = Police can spend more time on each crime = more convictions = less crime = more time for police per crime = more convictions = ultimately less in prison = cheaper for us tax payers. Is it just me ?

17 months so he will serve what? 8 months?

He should serve at least 2 years.

Chop their hands off or bring back the ducking stool etc.

17 month sentence, halved as less than two years so 8 1/2 months, last two probably on a tag???

. ..and then start his 2 year driving ban, be required to attend further driver training, followed by a retest before he's ever allowed to drive solo again.

He probably wanted three meals a day, warm room, TV, gym, sports facilities, free dental care, priority medical care for free ops sorry costing the taxpayer £3,500 per month.

At the same time law abiding people are cutting food, cutting energy consumption, giving up their expensive gym membership, visiting the dentist less often and waiting in the queue at the hospital while their taxes pay for these leech like apologies for humans.

Stole from a Farm/Farmer. I wonder if a friend with Pigs will help out?.

Life in general can be a journey of chance with some winners and sadly some losers. Your outfit can never be left to chance. A short-while carrying out essential checks can ensure a long-time of happy & safe caravanning for all concerned.
Ignorance can often be bliss but is certainly not an excuse and when continually disregarded they can be totally disastrous for oneself and the innocent parties.

Precisely. Driving bans are pointless. Even if he gets caught driving inside his ban, they give you another ban.

I would agree about the chopping off of hands but only as long at they aren't allowed to claim disability benefits afterwards. I would return to the public style of punishments we used to have such as public floggings or the stocks - then the locals get to see what the slime looks like and be able to keep an eye on them as well as exact a bit of "community payback" thenselves.

The judge should have taken into account whether he was running the correct noseweight and the caravan was loaded correctly.

That may be why he got what seems to be regarded as a lenient sentence. Gives a whole new meaning to the question "are you towing legally" :D

As someone who used to work in a prison, correct on all counts.
