Linking Batterys

Shouldn't be a problem - make sure you connect positive to positive and negative to negative - also I would make sure that both batteries are in a similar state of charge (preferably fully charged ) to ensure you don't get a spark when connecting the leads .

Yes! I've just done that for this winter by charging them both with a solar panel. Lefthand Down sent me a link for a dual charger regulator which I bought and it arrived the next day. Just wired it up last weekend and so far so good - if this is what you mean by linking batteries? I'll find the link

IMO For safety wire in a in line fuse in the + wire the fuse needs to be smaller than the Amperage of the cable.

No problem at all as long as they are connected in parallel with each other. You could use 10 mm singles cable too join them with.
