Camping Le Puits

Recently spent one night at this site. It is a great stopover just off the motorway just past Caen. Beautiful large grassy pitches surrounded by hedges. However it was a bit expensive for late September (24 euros) and the site tariff was deceptive as they charge separately for persons with the caravan rather than give an inclusive price for car, caravan and 2 persons, and it looked as though it had not been at all busy over the Summer. (pitches were pristine and unmarked ) Site owner seemed a bit abrupt

I agree with chrisheg; it is a great stopover - at a price.

We too spent one night at 'Le Puits' en route to West coast Brittany. Very convenient being only a couple of miles south of the motorway in the village of Saint Martin-des-Besaces, Normandy. Very easy to find and owned and run by a hard-working ex-pat couple for the last six years.

Yes it is perhaps a bit more expensive than the norm but it is beautifully quiet, there is a bar and an eating lounge with bar-type meals in the converted old farm buildings. The site is not heavily used so the pitches are indeed lush (ours had lovely grass 6" long all over).

Although access to and from the site is easy, be aware that the reception itself is located in a dead-end horshoe of farm buildings with restricted turning facilities, which you don't realise until too late!

This site did the business for us and we were not unhappy.

We were slightly concerned as to where to stay on the way back from Brittany. In the end we opted for what we used to do - wait for the night ferry to leave an pull on to the dockside at Caen. Le Puits was one of the sites we'd considered. If it had not been for a gale blowing up during the night we wouldn't have noticed that during mid September we would be few not may at the dockside. ... security was certainly not a problem as we were right next to the Customs post!!! Something to consider in the future - site or dockside . ..

As a much cheaper alternative I would recommend the Municipal at Pont Farcy in that area. We stayed at that site travelling to/from Brittany/Dunkerque and less than 5 minutes from the A84. An idyllic location and only £9. 95 per night for the pitch with EHU for the 2 of us and Max the collie. Very FRIENDLY warden.

Glad to help Rodders.

We would have been VERY happy to stay there again this year but, partly because of the likely increased business of the M25 with the London Olympics we have opted for the Plymouth to Roscoff route.

I'm sure you will enjoy the site.

Tim
