Hi.

Looking for a good value electric meter as might borrow from friends house frequently and would like to pay the going rate. Saw Metermaid and look ideal but £130!

Can anyone suggest something else that might work?

Sorry, can't suggest anything other than the metermaid. Bought one a good many years ago from a boat show and find it very handy. Especially if you plug the van in at home you can see exactly how much power the van uses. Also no wiring is needed as it just plugs into the end of your cable. It might be worth having a google search for ybw forum which is a boating forum im also a member of. People often advertise metermaids in the for sale section. Ian.

Cant you simply read their houses consumer meter at the start and finish of your stay?

Yes, read the meter, look at an old bill for the cost per KWH and that's that.

I suspect if you are friendly enough to borrow a house, no one will fall out if the bill is a fiver one way or the other.

Are you borrowing your mate's house or just his electricity?

Do these energy monitor show how many units of electric is used over a set period ? They are fitted in minutes and are only about £30 or less on Ebay or free from energy suppliers in some cases

I have a British Gas energy meter (free from them), you put your tariff into the meter and it will tell you electric used per day in kWh and £, instantaneous usage (kWh and £/hr), usage for last 7 days, month, 3 months. ..

Its a doddle to install, it just has a current clamp, so there is no reason why you can't fit this to a hook up lead.

Loads of these on eBay for under £20.

Why dont you get one of those that clip round the live wire in the meter, shows consumption in KWH, you get em free from the energy companies & cheap on ebay.
