The freezer flap on our freezer has had it any I need to replace the spring but the sticker on the inside with the relevant information has long gone and I've got no books.

Its an Electrolux in a 1997 Sterling, how would I find the correct information to buy the right spring?

Has the spring broken or weakened? If the latter try winding it up to restore tension.

Try matching it at a car accesorry shop as many have a selection of springs etc.

There are two types of hinge which incorporate the springs.

One type is a slide which slides into the lower edge of the freezer box and screws to the lower edge of the freezer flap.

The second type is a round fitting which goes into the side of the fridge and is screwed to the end underside of the freezer flap.

If your fridge has two rectangular "flaps", one at each end of the freezer flap against the fridge sidewall, you ned the second type.

If as you look upwards at the under edge of the freezer flap there are two sets of 2 screws about a third of the way in from each end, and two screws in the underside of the freezer box, you need the first type.

Dont even bother fiddling about trying to replace springs from motorfactors, it is much quicker and cheaper to get the right ones.

The first type are here: http://www. waudbys. co. uk/products/door-spares1. html Freezer Door Hinge

The second type are these http://www. waudbys. co. uk/products/1-2-series-fridge-spares. html Freezer Door Bearing Assembly

I dont think re-tensioning the spring will be an option, however you will be able to order the springs (not cheap, about £16 for 2) but you will have to have the model no. They are all pretty standard and the people at the centre who deal with you will be very helpful. Hope this helps a bit  Peter

At this age it will be a 42xx series fridge, the very common full height fridge with a step at the bottom to clear the wheel arch will be a RM4270

Next time we are at the caravan (to remove the fanmaster fan to send to ARC :) ) then I will double check the above before I order the wrong thing. Not major but a bugbare and I don't like things that don't work in my caravan including children ;)
