Les Champs Blancs, Agde

chatting to some people whilst away in france recently, they recommended the above site as an alternative to one we've previously used on the med. they raved about this site, and reading about it in the camping cheque book it does look very nice.

however, reading some reviews about it, whilst most people agree that it's a great site, there would appear to be a problem with noise pollution from the main road, and, more worryingly for us, noise pollution from a nearby disco going on till 6am! we left a site in italy early a couple of years ago because of the racket from an open air disco on the site next door. it's also one of the reasons we're looking for an alternative site on the med, our favourite one having become subjected to a similar problem.

any comments?

thanks.

We've stayed there a couple of times - last time about four years ago. The road noise is a bother and the road is always busy, even during the night, and particularly when the Harley Davidson Rallies are on in late August/early September. We haven't heard the disco, perhaps that's a new thing? However, we met two couples this year who'd both been to Champs Blanc and didn't like it at all. .! One of the couples thought they'd booked - but when they got there the site couldn't find their booking, and could only accommodate them for one night, and the other couple just left the site after looking around.

Some of the pitches are on hard gravel - which is of a large size, and not very pleasant underfoot. Some are on the usual packed hard worn grass.

I personally wouldn't rave about the site - perhaps the restaurant and pool, but that's all!

What site do you normally stay on? We've just come back from Camping Neptune, at Grau d'Agde which is in a much nicer situation than Champs Blanc, and doesn't suffer from road noise either! A bigger alternative is Le Dragonniere at Vias, which is a big site, with pool complexes, and the camping/caravanning pitches are at the back of the site and looked quite nice.

the site we've stayed on was la yole at valras/vias. we'd been back numerous times as it was our kind of site, very laid back, large pitches each with water and waste, lots of french, dutch and germans so not a british enclave, (something we're not overly keen on, preferring to mix with other nationalities) and then had a break from it for a few years. returned three years ago and what a difference! lots of statics, a new pool complex. ...and all this booming music till 3/4am every night which we're assuming came from a bar/disco which backs on to the site, nearly drove us mad. since then we've been looking for a site to replace it as we really enjoy heading to the med in may/june. we enjoyed isle de re this year and did contemplate going back next year but we would dearly love to find a replacement site on the med.

we passed le dragonniere a number of times but it didn't really appeal for some reason, maybe worth another look. will definately check out camping neptune though as we really like the agde/sete area.

thanks for your comments :)

There the same mozzies at at Champs Blanc, which is only two fields away! We didn't find them too bad this year, at all. Some years are apparently worse than others.

thanks for the replies. neptune does look favourite at the moment, just a bit worried about the mozzies there, i'm a bit of a mozzie magnet at the best of times :(

We stayed at Neptune a couple of years ago and there are some pictures here http://www. davidklyne. co. uk/camping_le_neptune. htm It is a nice enough site but access can be difficult in some sections of the site if you have a larger unit. One of the attractions of the site is that its not that large so tends to be more peaceful than the mega sites. If you just turn up it can be Hobson's Choice with pitches as they do allow booking of individual pitches, even with Camping Cheques.

Just returned from Neptune. It was almost full even up to 13th September. There was an overnight storm 3rd September and many pitches were flooded but the conditions were extreme and I have not encountered this problem before.

Champs Blanc has an impressive pool complex but the pitches are small and very crowded.
