Electric & Gas

On some sites they make you pay for using a shower at a rate of 20p or more for a session. Basically this means that they are actually supplying you with the water, gas or electric to in order to haev a shower. I was under the impression that this is illegal unless you had a supply licence. Perhaps this should be queried with EnergyWatch!

I know what you mean but it doesn't quite work that way!

They are supplying you with hot water, not energy. The same could equally be said for supplying you with a hot pie, or fish & chips etc. or even warmth on an electrically operated train!!!!

Be good if they did get 'done' for it though - I hate it when sites charge for showers, it seems so mercinary

A very good reason sites charge for showers is to stop abuse?, like leaving without turning it off. .if there was not hot water left for you how pleased would you be?. 20p is a minimal charge and the timer needs something to make it work?, any 'profit' I think would be swallowed up paying for other unsavoury abuse I have seen in toilet blocks. ..there's some filthy sods about!!

Mind you I would not even go on a site that charged extra for dogs!!

To get the hot water they have to use gas or electric and water and that is what they are selling to you therefore they are supplying you with those commodities although they do not have a licence to do so.

On some parks they have a tap that you push in and it lasts just so long before automatically switching off so that knocks that argument out the window. As for filty *****, I totally agree but unfortunately that is one of the hazards of the trade. Luckily not every one is that way inclined.

Hi Gary, good point but, if this is the reason, why not make the showers push button timed so's they switch off automatically after a set time?

I know what you mean by 'unsavoury' abuse mind, I too have seen several horrid 'things' left in and around loo blocks.

I know it's difficult to compare, but the CC & C&CC do not charge extra, nor do the majority of sites. Some of the club sites use coded entry into the loo block when Jo public can get into the site to minimise the risks.

I still think that when you are paying around £20 a night for a patch of ground to stand your pride and joy on and plug into electrics, to then charge another £1 a night (there are five of us!) to get clean, is 'tight'. It is my choice not to use sites that do this, and I also avoid sites that charge for my dog, unless, of course, he gets to use the loo block too!!!
