Cannot add anything more to what Taid has already said.

No! Don't degrease the ball. Change it. You will never get rid of every trace of grease from the old tow ball so spend a fiver (or is it a tenner?) on a new ball.

Hi,

thanks,

it's a volvo removeable one, so not buying another, I will remove it and shop blast the ball at work to get it 100% clean,

we are getting a new Bailey Carolina,

being built on Monday,

delivered to leeds on Tuesday,

PDI on Wednesday,

collected Thursday then straight to the Lake District for a long weekend camping !

can't wait !

I can understand that buying a replacement isn't an option but be careful when shot-blasting that you don't reduce the diameter of the tow ball.

Shot blasting may also give a rough surface finish which wouldn't do the pads any good. I'd just use brake cleaner and a Scotchbrite pad.

de-grease it then rub it down with emery cloth and de-grease again if replacement isn't an option.
