Without the van, we have always driven York, Pickering and then across Filingdales way, coming into Sleights. However, not sure about some of the hills involved in going that way. Arc Systems
You turn right at Pickering and go through Scarborough, you then only have Cloughton bank to contended with. ..only!! Only. ..very first time I pulled my van I got to Cloughton bank behind a coach and decided to stay behind in the Crawler lane, big mistake, while moving I could have overtaken with ease if someone would let a caravan out! Trouble was the coach had mega gearbox problems and half way up finally came to a grinding halt! given the traffic getting out from a near standstill was impossible so I had to stop. So in truth I can say it's not that bad, I pulled off with fair ease tugging 1300kg with a 2lt Sierra Quote Arc Systems are specialist Carver caravan product repairers, committed to providing a comprehensive service as well as spare parts for these popular heaters. ian dunning
Hi, There's no real towing problems with your normal route so long as you're not towing a twin axle with a Ford Fiesta . Blue Bank into sleights needs abit of care but it's no real problem. Coming from Cleveland we hit a 1 in 4 bank (if my memory serves me right) and that's not a problem, Regards, Ian. Mickyblueyes
We live in the area, and would never suggest using the coast road Scarborough-Burniston-Cloughton-Whitby coming from where you do as you have to muck about through Scarborough residential areas past the hospital etc to get there so you are likely to get caught in traffic if you are unlucky, plus it would add quite a distance onto the journey. The Fylingdales road is a lot more direct and picturesque and although busy bank holiday weekends, it is a lot 'swifter' than the alternative. BertieBassett
Got to agree with the Fylingdales moor route, it's better for towing and HGVs. Jeff

ROBH
"off subject" what a great walk the Horcum is. about 5 miles and very different. Loved it and the area. Luckily we stayed at the Black Bull just before Pickering, great hol apart from the rain. Did'nt think the route through Pickering to Whitby was that bad or has my memory deserted me.
