Nationwide Free Foreign Transactions

Recommended Posts

just had a "changes to terms & conditions" booklet for my Nationwide credit card - previously all foreign transactions have not incurred any charge (as most/all other companies do) but as from 6th May they will be making them for some areas. Doesn't seem to affect the EuroZone and Skandinavia but you can find out specific countries on www. nationwide. co. uk/foreigntransactions.

Thin end of the wedge methinks, but I've been expecting it. :(

I am very pleased to see that there will be charges for France or Spain!

Hi FM02MZO

I think you mean NO charges, and in effect I think it is only US and Far East that

will have the new charges - bit far to tow to there though. ..

The charges in the affected areas are still far less than the other cards on offer

other than PO and 'the other' (cant recall) which are still feeless (new word?)

My mistake, I was obviously excited to see that it would not affect our holidays.

Hi Neil,

It might be a card from the Abbey.

I asked Nationwide about this issue and they said that they're recouping what they're charged as in the current financial climate they must look after all their customers and not subsidise those that go abroad. They also said that they couldn't comment on other banks, but that I may find that the others will come into line soon, well they would say that wouldn't they :D,

Regards,

Ian.

All international card transactions are processed by either Mastercard or Visa. Nationwide (Visa) are passing on some of the charges, which have increased, in respect of some countries but continuing to absorb them within the E. C. where they are still the only one providing free foreign transactions.

The Abbey Zero credit card is still free for purchases worldwide but not for cash advances. I'm not sure if it's still available for new customers.
