lumonfire
Hi there: We'll be towing down from Scotland in June and we're looking for a decent site with a late arrivals area (as we'll be arriving near midnight) near any Junction from J18 to J3 on the M1. Better still if it had somewhere for young kids (5 years and 3 years) to run around in the morning. Any suggestions Folks? X-Bob
Hello Lumonfire This website gives you a few campsites close to the M1 (and other motorways) but I couldn't tell you about late arrivals. http://users. telenet. be/leo. huybrechts/gb-menu. htm If you get no more specific recommendations I suppose it might be worth contacting some of them. Landroverman
There is Billing Aquadrome at Northampton, a few minutes from the M1 along the A45 at junction 15. Not the best site and may be expensive for one night. Are you in either of the major clubs? Only they have sites not too far from M1 junctions together with numerous CS/CL sites. Stop earlier There is nothing close to the M1 motorway between J14 and J3 other than CC at Hemel Hempstead, J9, which does not have a late arrival area and is situated in a narrow lane. Thought of using the A1, the CC site at Peterborough is close?
seeyoujimmy
Depends where your final destination is. ..one of the ferry ports? Me? I never use the M1 but prefer the M8 - M74 - M6. You might then consider the M5 - M42 with a stop at CC site Chapel Lane J3 M42 which has a late arrival then onto the M40 and all points south. Chapel Lane very handy just off the M42 I do this a fair few times. It's a 6 -7 hr haul from Bathgate with a stop at Tebay South for tea depending on traffic.
