fintious maximus
Hi all, i'm trying to work out the towing ratio of my outfit by using whattowcar. com and my van isn't listed (93 Swift Corvette). I can pick a similar sized van from the options and change the weight but in the caravan handbook it only lists two weights which are Ex-works weight at 840kg and Max authorised weight. Does ex-works mean the same as MIRO and Max authorised mean the same as MTPLM? Any help appreciated.

Ex works and MRO are the weight of the empty 'van and the Max authorised weight and the MTPLM is the max weight of the 'van when loaded. To find out the payload subtract the larger weight from the smaller, Regards, Ian. ian dunning
Hi, Did you spot my deliberate mistake? Obviously you should subtract the smaller weight from the larger not vice versa , regards, Ian. GeorgeB
The problem with the "ex works weight" is that it doesn't include the gas bottle(s) and the battery! what you really need to do is to load the van with all the "essentials" then take it to your local weigh bridge & find out what it realy weighs excluding all the stuff thats not normally included such as food, clothing etc Edited March 1, 2009 by GeorgeB Quote GeorgeB Cleverly disguised as a responsible adult When I said I was normal. .....maybe I exaggerated somewhat! I was suprised when we took ours as I thought we had plenty of spare capacity wereas we found there was little spare in reality, Regards, Ian. Arc Systems
There is one proviso to both being the same, in 93 extras could well have been fitted after leaving the factory, these would include most of the heavier things fitted as standard today such as fridge, oven and water heater. In which case ex-works was just that and took no account of extra weight added later to arrive at an actual MIRO Quote Arc Systems are specialist Carver caravan product repairers, committed to providing a comprehensive service as well as spare parts for these popular heaters. ian dunning
Hi Roger, that's why it's sensible to have the 'van weighed so you know the true figures, or as close as possible taking into account the weighbridge's possible discrepancy, Regards, Ian. Roger, Not sure if all manufacturers can do it but I have just had my MTPLM increased to cover the installation of 4 motor movers !!
