Recommendations For Chalons/epernay/nancy Region?

Recommended Posts

Anyone any experience of good sites in the Champagne/ N. Eastern part of France? We've stayed at Chalons and it was pretty good, and then travelled into Epernay but have no idea whether the latter's municipale or other close site is any good? And what about around Nancy - how's Camping Le Brebois for example? We prefer a fairly quiet site but with reasonable, modern facilities.

We're trying to make up our mind between that neck of the woods and the Loire

Also, anyone know of any good ferry deals say from Hull to Zeebrugge - we really can't bear the long drive down from Scotland to Dover any more and wouldn't pay the ludicrous prices (over £1000!) for the Rosyth-Zeebrugge crossing.

We stayed at the Epernay Municipal a couple of years ago and found it a perfectly OK place for a few days stay. It is part of a Sports Complex so during the weekends there can be some noise if there is an event happening. There was a football competition when we were there. There is a Carrefour Supermarket a few minutes away. The easiest approach to the site is via the road from Reims. I have a site report with pictures here http://www. davidklyne. plus. com/camping_municipal_epernay. htm

Newcastle/Amsterdam are doing some very good deals at the moment, worth looking at as for us it worked out much cheaper than Hull. Good motorway links from Ijmuiden get you through Holland very quickly - we travelled this was last summer.

Last year we spent the first few days at a lovely (quiet) campsite at Camping Du Moulin just on the edge of Vianden, superb toilet/shower blocks. Vianden is a lovely town with a impressive Schloss towering above it on a cliff/mountain top.

We then went to Masevaux - lovely ex municipal campsite on edge of town, once again superb facilities and large grassy pitches. This is on the edge of the Vosges mountains, maybe a bit further south than you are thinking of but a lovely area with lots to see and do, good cycling country as well.
