HELP!!!

I have lost my caravan key, for the door, the front box and the hitch, what can i do???

its a 1998 compass pentara, i have spoke to the manufacturers who put me through to a local dealer who said he cant help because i don't know the key number as he'd be able to copy it for the main door as they have all the keys, i'm stuck for options whether to break in, replace lock/door, either or both, i just don't know what my options are and are thinking i can't afford the repairs??

anybody else had this or suggest a solution, thanks

Ask a local locksmith for a quote to open up the van. They'll be able to gain access but it will cost.

If the number isn't on the lock after you've gained access then you'll probably have to replace all the locks.

The locks are numbered internally, problem is you need to get in first to unscrew the lock and read the number?!

Beats me why your dealer could not tell you that? but of course you do need to get in!

Once you have gained entry you will be able to unlock the door from inside, and take the lock off from inside the van to get to the number.

If Ian can tell you how to get in with minimal damage wait for his PM before you do anything.

Hi,

If you follow my advice, via PM, then to secure the 'van lock the door from the inside and climb out of a window, then loop string around each catch so that the string hangs between the window pane and the seal, climb out then pull the string so that the catches close then slip the string from the catch through the closed window. Erm please don't leave the piece of paper with the number written on it in the 'van ,

Ian.

Hi vicki,

I've PM'ed you regarding the removal of the lock (Phil is correct with our old 'van and I guess yours will be much the same) though I don't know where the key number is found,

Regards,

Ian.

If the number is not on the lock, then take the lock to the dealer and go through all the keys until you find the right one.

I presume you have the reg doc at home, it will tell you the previous keeper who might be able to tell you which dealer supplied it, who, in turn, will have the key number.

If you do get in, then the service book will also have the information in it.

Regards

David

As you are in the Hull area you could talk to FM Caravans or Waudbys at South Cave.

I would have thought that if you quote the CRiS number to the manufacturer they should be able to tell you the key number.

I would have thought the key numbers should be written in your service book. Have you stored them in the van or do you have access to them??

You should be able to get a window from a caravan breakers. But it still wont be cheap, cost me £ 70 for a smallish window. If it is just the inner glazing can you live with it for now. Shop around and dont just buy the first one you see.

Hoping from posts you might be able to help me get in to my caravan. It's a Marauder 38012. I have just taken on a site with it on and can't trace the keys. Want to get the lock number

Each caravan has a different key number. Same models will have different keys.

Do you not have spares at home?

Keys available on eBay providing you know the number.

Only a 6 year old thread :-).

I don't understand, though. You have taken on a site? You own it and have found a caravan on it, or this is your own van and you have lost your own keys? Can you elaborate please?

Enjoy every minute of every day. It doesn't last nearly as long as you'd like, and there's no guarantee of coming this way again.

I am renting a site to convert in to an allotment :) The caravan is on the site, we were aware of the caravan but are unable to get the keys. I need to get in and get the lock number so I can get the lock number and replace the lock or get keys. I would really rather not break a window.

sorry I didn't realise you had replied to the thread I have just created another one.

Hi,

As I have stated on the other thread you started, I don't think our members should post advice on the open forum on how to break into a locked caravan. Please read the PM I have sent to you.
