Alko Spare Wheel Carrier

The last post on here seems ages ago. ..... so

The Alko SWC is designed to have a small padlock through the bolt to prevent it being nicked (if it isn't bolted down etc.) but it's in the firing line for gunge from the wheel and liable to seize up. Solution: Take a small pudding basin (Christmas Pud type) drill a hole in the bottom of it, place over the bolt, screw on the handle, fit the padlock, clip on the lid - Robert's your father's brother - clean and dry padlock! (Tip nicked from Practical Caravan - I've already had one original thought).

Or buy an avondale, wheel stored inside van - no mud or scrabbling around on road if you have a puncture. ...
