Tv In France And Spain.

Recommended Posts

We are travelling to Spain and France this year and are hoping for some advice on the best way to watch TV. we will be taking a TV with a Status aerial but no satelite dish / box. We have a Freeview box but have been told this will not work overseas. Someone else has mentioned that the TV needs to be PAL??? We are not sure what this means and would like to know a) is this true and also how do you know?

Would appreciate any advice.

if you want English language TV then best get a sky box(second hand quite cheap) and one of the 43cm sky dishes + LNB off ebay for 20 quid

Sky will supply a free viewing card if you contact them, say it is for home use though.

If you jst want TV, then you need a TV with PAL B/G and SECAM to receive everthing on the way down

If you want satellite tv in Spain then a 43cm dish is no use. Much depends upon your location in Spain as to the dish size.

For southern Spain you will need at least 1metre. and for the south of France an 80 cm dish, although there are variations. I'll try and attach a map showing the footprint of Astra 2D and the dish sizes required.

Sorry, the size is too big - it's a bitmap image.

Robbie is correct. You'll need a big dish for S. France, and especially Spain, for all BBC, ITV stuff, and it must be SAT reception; Freeview no good.

Best website I know is David Sullivan's 'Satelliteforcaravans' or some such; don't have it on this computer. Lots of links showing dish size coverage etc.
