Anyone tow with a Mercedes glc and a twin axle

As title,  think the transporter is going to have to go and have been looking at  2017 mercedes  glc 250d as a replacement. We currently have a bailey pegasus grande with the weight upgrade to 1800kg.

On paper the glc is 1845kg so not the 85% recommendation but some online reviews suggest it will be fine

Looking for first hand experience of those that have a similar set up and have towed more than 1 review period.

Thanks steve

Our car is 1845kg unladen and caravan is 1785kg MTPLM (without any upgrade). So far we've had no problems.

Wasn't the Bailey original MTPLM something like 1620kg? In that case you can just load it as if it had the original limit (assuming you haven't added Aircon, movers and some other heavy fixed upgrades) and the car won't be able to read the weight plate so long as you make sure it never faces the caravan 😂

Also, pretty sure "the caravan vlogger" on YouTube towed a twin axle Swift Challenger with a GLC until it got stolen recently.

Our 2016 GLC 250D was an excellent car and towed our TA Elddis with 1800kg MPTLM (upgraded) without any problems. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend one.

I imagine it will be a great towcar.

Your van is under the kerb weight. The 85%thing as you know is not based on any scientific research and imo antiquated and just a starting point for beginners . Your GLC tow rate is far more important which appears to be 2500kg. I'd happily tow our 2000kb Buccaneer with it! It'll be a superb tow car.

The modest rear overhang, wide gait coupled with the long wheelbase, all look very promising characteristics for stable towing.

Hi, MB ML 2013 W166 owner with the very closely related 2.1 Diesel / 7speed towing 1500 kgs s/axle.

MB are a fairly unusual  towcar around the sites likely because  they do not cowtow to the journo’s and so MB get very little press space.

A GLC Diesel (Euro 6) will certainly tow your larger van with great ease and a comfortable + likely very economical armchair experience.

As suggested careful loading will mitigate any weight combination concerns.

NB An actual weighbridge check of a Caravan in normal towing loading will confirm the truth on its weight. Always amuses me the many who totally believe the Car & Caravan builders specs, figures and claims rather than just the truth.
