Many thanks

42 minutes to boil a litre of water with a 12v 150w kettle -

gas might be the better option.

Most certainly would!

one thats not 12v! if you haven't got gas hob available I suggest taking a camping stove instead and some spare gas cartridges

Don't bother, they're all useless and a waste of money. Even if you get an inverter to change 12V to 240V, boiling a kettle will flatten the battery.

12 volts is no good for anything that requires heat.

For such work it has to be mains electricity or gas.

I've got nothing to do on this hot afternoon

but to settle down and write you a line.

Many thanks for the replies chaps.

A hob kettle it is then, probably cheaper to buy.

Cheers

We have a 12 volt kettle which takes up to 10 minutes to boil, but we have lived with it when using sites with low power hook ups. If you use one, the best advice is to make sure you use as little water as you need to keep the boiling time down.

Use a kettle or pan on the gas hob. If 12v were suitable for such high energy needs it would already be commonplace.
