Skoda Superb 1.6 CR TDI GREENLINE ELEGANCE 2015

Recommended Posts

Hi All,

Thinking of purchasing the above car, which is for sale in a local garage for £10.000.

Wonder if anyone has used one.

My present car is a Peugeot 407 estate 2.0l.

So wondering if the smaller engine will be ok, the C&CC towcar service says it is.

My caravan is Eldis Avante 524.

MIROW 1135kg.

MTPLM 1375kg.

Thanks in advance,

Tim

Great choice ;):D

How does the power and torque compare with the 407?

If I have googled the correct details.

Peugeot Power 140bhp, Torque 320 Nm,  240 ft-lb.

Skoda 118bhp, Torque 250 Nm, 184 ft-lb.

These figures mean nothing to me, but assume the Peugeot is much more powerful.

Suggest you do more research on a 1.6 most posters will probably say insufficient power for a relaxed tow as you are looking at around 25% less ummph.  Depends a little on how often and how far you tow, and whether you feel you can accept less power, more gear changing etc.

Greenline models are not usually well regarded for towing as they are economy specials.

Not only do they have a smaller lower powered diesel they also have tall gearing to keep the revs low.

Hi, I’ve driven one of these with 5 adults and a boot full of luggage and it was quite pedestrian.

Not sure what it would be like with a caravan on the back.

I think these models were designed for taxi drivers and others who demand every last mile for their gallon.

Stick with the Suberb but find the 150bhp 2L TDI. Or even better the 2L TSI petrol (any power variant).

We had a 2014 Superb, but it was with the 2.0L engine.  That pulled the 1350kg caravan we had the at time beautifully.  I can't comment on the 1.6 engine, but as a towcar the Superb is superb!

made even worse by the software fix applied to sort the emissions scandal out.

It's a 2015 Superb so will be an MQB model with a 120PS 1.6TDi.

That will be a EA288 engine so not affected by the fix which was only required on older Euro 5 EA189.

None of the Euro 6 diesels had double map software or the few Euro 5 EA288's

Personally, I wouldn't even think about it as there's a 2 litre alternative available. 10k is a lot to risk if it's not going to be right for the job.

Many thanks for replies.

I will not go for this car and go for a 2l diesel car.

I am finding it difficult though, having had my present car for over 8 years, there just seems to be so much choice!

Thanks again, any ideas for a towcar still appreciated!

Could still be a Mk2 on a 15 plate. Rare but possible.
