Richard Carder
Hi, is there caravan owners that have their caravans in storage at Dornafield touring park, Devon? I'm having trouble getting insurance as they will not allow wheel clamps on the caravan during storage, only hitch locks. We love the site and having our caravan there suits us just fine. We have a tracker also active.
CPDavis
Caravan Club insurance would be happy with just a Hitchcock. Guessing Dornafield is a very safe site with owners in residence. I would just take a gamble and not bother with the wheel clamp. 2 Quote CPDavis Fordingbridge

Jiffy176
This is about the only reason I stay a CMC member. Is the caravan stored in the UK. Yes. What security do you have. Hitchcock. Thank you job done. I use a variety of locks but not when I'm away with it Might be time to try a different insurer.
DACS
I am insured with My Insurance. com and they only require a hitch lock OR wheel clamp.
ian16527
I think Eversure dont need a wheel lock when on site. They are members on here. They only state a wheel lock and hitch lock to be used (to sold secure gold std) when not on a site or in storage but you could ask them to make sure Edited September 1, 2020 by ian16527
Rodders53
Wheel clamps will impede them from moving the caravans to another location in emergency which an alarm or hitch lock will not prevent. This is almost certainly in an attempt to protect their property and, potentially, your caravan in the event of something happening... fire, flood, collapse of roof, etc.,. IIRC quite a lot of their storage is under cover in barns? Having trouble getting and unable to insure are two different things? Premiums could be higher, but then convenience is a factor? Hunt around for insurers. Even your current insurer may waive the normal wheel clamp clause if alternatives are in place? However, you may have a bigger problem with clause 2 of Dornafield's own conditions: 2. SIZE No Caravans over 7/6” 2.31648 m will be accepted into storage as your Lunar Delta RI is 2.326 metres or thereabouts? My experience is that managing wheel locks, keys etc is the main reason storage sites try to discourage their use. Our storage stated they wouldn't manage wheel locks until I said it was a condition of insurance and we'd need to move elsewhere. U turn was instant! I have a Milenco hitchlock, a Milenco Wraith wheel lock, a second wheel lock (apologies, can't remember off hand, but its orange) and a steady lock. The first two items is what they require. When I'm away anywhere, I have to put on both hitchlock and wheel lock. I've just done my insurance a few weeks ago.

Well I think they dont Just renewed yesterday and this was in the attachment. So I read this as not needing a lock when on a site, in secure storage or when attached to a car being towed. Wildwood
The answer seems to be that if you cannot find insurance for the caravan then you either take a risk or move it elsewhere. The CAMH may insure it but, I think you need to be a member, and they are expensive, although also probably the best. The wheel clamp requirement is there for a reason, and if that site is known to store caravans without one, it might be targeted, although that would depend on what other security there is. Rodders53
OP should not be storing at D in breach of their terms - no wheel clamps and no caravans over a certain width? That is clear enough? 1 1 Quote 2012 Bailey Pegasus 2 Rimini towed by 2019 Ford Galaxy Titanium X, 2.0 EcoBlue, 8 speed auto.
Paul1957
Our first storage site used for 16 years did not allow wheel clamps with the reason they may need to move caravans in an emergency or to do maintenance on the site. We were insured through the Camping and caravanning club and it was not a problem. It was a CASSOA gold site but I do not know if that made a difference apart from keeping the insurance cheaper. It was 10 years before we bought a wheel clamp since when away we could borrow one from the storage site for a small fee. A hitch lock was always used. I would not take a risk of invalidating the insurance and you will probably find the storage site wants you to have third party cover so not complying with the insurance conditions might invalidate this. Silversurf
The suggestion I will make to him, is that, rather than suggesting looking into insurance, wheel clamps, hitch locks et al. First contact Dornafields to enquire if his van is acceptable for storage, asking is the width an exact criteria, or is there leeway and what it is, depending on their answer, at best he will then be able to decide what security, insurance to enquire about for that site, or, at worst, may have to look for another storage site with more generous width allowance and research security and insurance for that site.
