Naze Marine Holiday Park, Walton-on-the Naze, Essex

Recommended Posts

We took our caravan for our first post-lockdown trip last weekend. We chose this Parkdean site as it was only an hour and a half away from home and we both had fond memories of Walton-on-the-Naze from childhood. We also have friends in Essex and arranged to meet them for a picnic on the Naze.

The touring field at this site is just that - a field. Pitches are 6x6m and tightly packed. Unless you get a pitch on the edge of the field, you have caravans on all four sides of your pitch. The electric hook-up on our pitch didn't work and had to be fixed by an engineer. Communal facilities are basic but fairly new. We were surprised that there was no supply of hand sanitiser or additional cleaning regime apparent, considering this was the first weekend the site had opened after the COVID-19 lockdown.  The disposal point for emptying the chemical toilet is about 2 feet off the ground and had only a short length of shower hose to rinse out your toilet cassette. This was also the only place to empty the waste water container so I had to lift the Wastemaster over the ledge of the hopper to empty it.

This site is mainly comprised of static caravans and we felt that the touring field was a bit of an after-thought. Whilst it wasn't the site's fault, it was very noisy the weekend we stayed and reviews of the site for the same weekend on Tripadvisor suggest there were fights. We saw the police on site twice during the weekend. We actually left a day early and only spent two nights instead of the three we had booked. Overall, not a good start to our caravanning year :(
