Door lock dropped out

Recommended Posts

Hello. My door lock has come out with the key and won't stay in the handle.

How are locks held in place or any tips on repairing it. Thanks.

I have had this happen, insert the lock with the key in situ and rotate the lock fully left (or right - I cannot remember which) and the lock should stay in place.

It's usually the last wafer in the barrel that keeps it in place.  The springs are tiny and even a slight amount of dirt can cause issues.

To add to that, if it's a copy key it could be the issue.  Not many keybars calibrate there machines often enough, and an overlength key could cause it to happen.

A seemingly problem free 2010 model Adria Altea 542dk that has more than its fair share of use.

Thank you both. I have managed to get it to say in place and yes it is a copy key but not previously had this issue. The metal of the lock is actually starting to crack at the end where the tang is so I'm going to order a new lock
