Dream outfit

Recommended Posts

Hi guys, for obvious reasons nobody is going anywhere soon.
So as a bit of light relief I thought I would ask everyone what car and caravan they would have if money were no object.

Range Rover towing an 8ft wide Lunar Delta TI with a payload of around 400kg (sadly my ideal caravan is not made!)

If we keep this thread going maybe the manufacturers will learn something!

Not in a million years, Bubble !

I don’t think any caravan designer has ever stayed one single night in a caravan 😯

Maufacturers do not listen to customers they do want they think is best for us.  You only have to look at the "New" fad that they are promoting now " L Shaped lounges" that layout died a death several years ago and will be repeated this time round, maybe in the future it will be resurrected and will again be a flop, they will never lern from their customers who know better

As many people here know, we have an American RV but while it's great for spacial accommodation its size can be restrictive, and realistically we have to book well ahead, and assure the site owners that we really can fit on smaller hard stand pitches if we are able to let the rear of the outfit to overhang grass behind. The wheelbase is no more than the length of many caravans today, and nothing touches the ground behind the rear axle. We have towed a small car on a trailer, and that has been both economical to run, and convenient for driving down narrow lanes and parking in the smallest of spaces. We also carry a couple of folding bikes for access to those really off the road locations, or for areas where parking a car can be a real pain.

BUT in order to be able to tour in the accepted sense, the various caravans we have owned have generally been more versatile, plus we have had a  more comfortable towcar to explore the more inaccessible areas in.

On balance, if trying to get away from it all, I would probably choose a smallish campervan that could be parked in normal parking spaces, but also carry our electric bikes on the back so we can get to the "off the beaten track" places that motor vehicles cannot reach.  Our family have owned several VW campers. They're outdated and overrated but great fun all the same - such a shame that they have become desirable to surfers as it has made them disproportionately expensive.

I fear the mods might take a serious look  of my continuing forum membership if I did ;)

It IS nice in my little fantasy world though

Not so sure Andy, a fantasy in a dream outfit might satisfy the mods:)

For me am happy with the van, but would like something a little more exciting as a tug, quite fancy a Porsche Cayenne, or the Bentley SUV, when I was looking around for the Volvo recently went to one of these car supermarket type places that specialised in SUV's and they had one of those Maserati whatevers SUV's that sounded gorgeous when the sales guy started it up, even took it for a test drive, was very tempted, then the head took control over heart ....

If keeping within the laws of physics it would have to be a custom built caravan towed by a Rolls Royce Cullinan!

That's the one! No need for the tiresome towing either, just materialises where I want it!

Quite happy with my new BMW  X4  M40i , it tows our Pegasus Rimini with ease . I would like a Pegasus Grande the extra width is all we need so we can get round the end  of an East West bed  and we would have one.

Happy with our outfit, but I wouldn't say no to a Range Rover to tow with and a Porsche 911 convertible as a plaything.

Dream outfit ? Money no object? We have the outfit we want and its a very modest bit of equipment, and like thousands of people, could certainly buy something else if we fancied it. "Dream" as in fantacy is probably what you meant though.  Dynamic self levelling suspension with the ability to anticipate traffic calming humps? Built in motors which operate from the key fob? Solar energy panels incorporated in the bodywork? Windows and flloring made from warming/cooling sheet. Windows which dont need blinds and curtains (clever use of light both ways)? Entire thing miantenance free obviously. Oh yes, and a weather proof body.

I do fancy a good luxury model like the Buccaneer and the Range Rover if they can both guarantee me a trouble free model. As ours is stuck locked in the CAMH storage I would like access if needed just to sit in it and let it know it is still loved.

My perfect outfit, money no object would be a BMW X7 pulling an Airstream Yukon caravan.   BUT if I had that kind of disposable income, I would probably buy a nice Hymermobile B class modern comfort 1 motorhome on a  Mercedes chassis.

Where to start - I guess it would be with the car, I don’t like SUV’s so I think an Audi S7 Vorsprung would keep me happy.

The caravan, as it’s fantasy caravan time I’m probably thinking of a Knaus or Tabbert with an island bed and a decent shower!

We'd like a bed at least 5 feet wide, 6 1/2 feet long without rounded or cut off corners, that doesn't have to be made up at night. With a decent sized bedside table each side with power points and room for books, drinks, phones etc. I'd like to go back to a twin axle again purely because I think they look better balanced. Been really happy with our Pursuit though. In the real world we liked one of the Coachman Acadias we saw at the last show. There's some dealer specials that add a few extra bits as well. To tow it with, we'd definitely want an SUV with 4wd.A Kia Sorento would be a good choice, but I'd look at a Rexton as well. I'm perhaps in a minority of one, but I think the current Shogun Sport looks great, so would look closely at that as well.
