hi does anyone know if I could fit a real flame gas fire where I removed my old fire

It is not likely,  it depends on the type of flue. They do make flueless fires but they need a large ventilator and a large area which again is not likely in your situation and they cannot be the primary heat source. Your best bet would be to have a new flue and starter box fitted, but it would be expensive.

As it is a static and you no doubt have mains electric is an electric flame effect fire worth a consideration?

If you DO go down that route be sure to install a DECENT Carbon Monoxide alarm,

P.S. “Living flame” fires are nothing like as efficient as the “normal” sort of gas fires.
