Can you put a picture of it on the forum?   At a guess it could be caravan number172 built in January of 1975.

Some Avondales in the 70s had an olive green stripe along the side, others a coloured lower side panel but the front wall body shape indicates a model from the mid 1970s.

There is some debate over two possible interpretations of the serial number as some believe the last two digits indicate the manufacture year but another is for 172  0175 to indicate :-

1 - First model (Mayfly)

72 - 1972 model

0175  - Serial number

Is there a visible chassis number beginning LE *******? If so this may clarify the age of the chassis.

Hi Gordon,

Thanks for this.

Were would I look for the chassis number.

I need a new roof light so need to try and source that as its not a standard 40x40 shape . :)

Hi Ruth,

The chassis number is most likely to be on the A-frame, under the plastic cover but some older models also had then on the main side frame struts. There should also be an oval plate riveted in the centre of the axle that may show a manufacturing date.

As far as the rooflight goes, your best bet is probably a caravan breakers yard so below are some contact details that may help if you can let them know the size you need.
