Old 1990s caravan and Flogas Gaslight

We bought an old 1990s Elddis caravan this year and I'm wondering how we use Flogas Gaslight cylinders with it. At the moment we're using little 4.5kg Butane Calor cylinders. I've been researching for several days but it's hard to put the info together for these old caravans. I think I'm right in saying that I don't have a bulkhead regulator. We have a screw-in regulator (unsure of correct term) and it says on it Butane LR2108 29mbar on it (photo attached).

So can anyone tell me what I need to do to convert this old van to the new Gaslight cylinders? I've read of simple pigtails for bulkhead regulators but I'm pretty sure that's not the case here. Would appreciate any advice!

Hi Gavin,

You need to buy a bottle top regulator suitable for the Flogas cylinder. You can then unscrew the jubilee clip shown in your photo and remove the tube from your current regulator and put the tube onto the new regulator and secure with the jubilee clip.

I don't use Flogas gaslights, so I don't know which of these regulators would be suitable.

I have never used a (BP as-was) gaslight but I was always under the impression they are Propane.

You can always ask FloGas (HQ Doncaster) who are very helpful, but their web site says a 27mm clip-on regulator which being red confirms it is Propane.

You need a regulator just like this for FloGas Gaslight https://www.flogas.co.uk/shop/cylinder-accessories/regulators/27mm-propane-clip-on-regulator.

If the van is quite old then I'd also replace the flexible pipe as well just to be safe

All you need is one of these  https://www.gasequipmentdirect.co.uk/PBSCProduct.asp?ItmID=24182211  It clips onto the cylinder and you screw on you existing regulator ( I used to have a gaslight cylinder and know from first hand experience) ;)

Not ideal because Flogas is Propane and the regulator he's got is for Butane. It may not make too much of a difference with modern gas appliances which are designed to work from a 30mb regulator but older stuff may not operate correctlyif you use propane which should be 37mb at 28mb butane pressures.

A proper regulator is only about £8-10 so it's not really worth bodging it to save £1.50
