Check that the drain down value is closed.  Sounds like the value is still open

Yes, there are probably two, maybe one, in-line taps close to your water heater that need flipping over to close them. They’re used to drain the water out of the tank at the end of your trip.

If you have a Truama heater there is probably a small yellow valve alongside it - this needs to be closed. Ours is vertical when open and horizontal when closed but it depends on the installation - whichever way it is, it’s open now!

You then open it when you are packing up (with the water pump off) so as not to carry around 10kg of hot water around as it’s both excess weight and likely to be a great breeding ground for bugs before your next holiday!

Good point - but not if you are on a grass pitch - the hot water will kill the grass.  Run it off into your waste water container until it is just warm.

Yes if on grass we switch the heater off, run the hot water off via the sink until cold then open the tap.

Same as us, gives the pipes a nice run through with toasty hot water.

Either that or turn the water heater off when your get up in day of departure. But the time you've washed up etc it's fairly cool.

That’s my method too.

Had the same situation on one of our first trips. It was the drain valves open. Hope yours is the same. You remember next time you see it emptying underneath!
