Odd days

Caravans on the road

Recommended Posts

There seemed to be a lot of vans on the road from quite early this morning. Is it the sunshine or something on this weekend.

More likely getting out before it gets noisy!

As well as those going home, there will also be those going away to fill the vacated pitches. The Tour de France starts tomorrow and is on tv for most of the day so some might prefer to be at home to watch it rather than on holiday.

Our son is on a teacher training day, we pitched up at Ferry Meadows last night and I reckon it will be full tonight!

Could well be, we've already had our first week away of the school holidays.

I drove back down to Kent this morning from the Midlands and yes a lot of caravan and M/H traffic. Coming across the A14 from the M1 to the A1 something I havent seen for a long time, there was a road train of must have been 6 or 7 vans and one MH all jostling for position and generally being a bloody nuisance.... They were all nice rigs, good tugs, thought they should have known better. Then to top it off coming down the M11 had some clown in a late RRover with a Buccaneer swinging around on the back tailgating me at 75, I did let him by when I got past the line of lorries then the numpty came back into the inside lane doing his (or her) best to get me on the hard shoulder and disappeared in the distance probably doing 80ish.

I know both these instances are the minority but good god there are some pillocks out there that give us considerate, law abiding (ish) caravanners and M/h's a bad name on the road...

The Irish seem to have July and August off but no break between Easter and the summer holidays (ie no May half term)

Private schools have broken up around us too.

I suppose it makes sense for private schools with borders to not have half term, less upsetting for the kids keep having to go home and back.

My parents are at Kingsbury Waterpark C&CC site from today until Tuesday to try out their new caravan and as I'm only 25 minutes away i nipped over this afternoon to help them get used to the caravan as it's 14 years newer than their old one! There were lots of caravans on the A/M42 and the site was  nearly fully booked with a constant stream of people arriving.

Private schools generally have 4 weeks longer holidays than state schools.

We are in France pretty quiet, but the kids finish today. Our ACSI does too, we will be heading north on Monday probably have a week in Normandy.

Home before most English schools finish!

Back over mid August when ACSII is on!

Now retired not paying high prices to share campsites with hordes of kids!

Yes I am a grumpy old fart! No kids no mortgage 3 pensions and loads of travel!

After 20 years teaching in college, school holidays are avoided if possible!!

Nothing wrong with that, I actually like going away in the school holidays as I have a 9 year old and that’s what we signed up to!

Yes we are fortunate enough to be able to avoid school holiday periods.

Outside of school holidays = Ahhhhhhh.

Inside of school holidays = Arrrrrrrgh.
