Anyone with Sicily knowledge?

Recommended Posts

Hi

Has anyone been to Sicily, either with the caravan or by air? We've spotted an amazing value ferry crossing which for 140 euro covers us two, the dog and the 9 metre motorhome. The cabin is dog friendly and best of all, dogs can roam around the ship! It's quite normal in Italy to see dogs in restaurants etc, so I guess Corsica Ferries are playing on this.

Any info re the ferry or Sicily appreciated.

We would sail down and drive back. Ferry runs from the south of France

Called at Trapani in June 2014 on our first ever cruise. Lovely town and setting, very like the scenes from Montalbano. Would return to Sicily very happily.

The thing that struck me about Sicily was the poverty. It is still an intensely agrarian economy and in today's EU when the profits are in BMWs and Mercedes cars, lemons don't cut it. Italy hasn't done well.

It's a lovely island. Driving is - interesting - as there simply isn't any money to maintain roads. As an example the road from Palermo to Agrigento takes about 5 times as long as it should as the roadworks that were started have simply stopped and there are long sections of SALT with 'temporary' traffic lights. I was incredibly proud to have returned my hire car without a scratch!

The people are lovely and the food is incredible.

Dogs and cats roam around freely.
